At Shepparton East Primary School, we know that children learn best when they feel safe, connected and supported. Our Wellbeing Program is at the heart of everything we do, creating a positive school culture where every child can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
We use School-Wide Positive Behaviour Supports to set clear expectations for behaviour across the school.
Our four core Care for values guide everything we do: Care for Your Learning, Care for Others, Care for Yourself and Care for Your School.
Students are explicitly taught what these values look like in the classroom, the playground and beyond.
Positive behaviour is recognised and celebrated through classroom Spotto rewards, whole-school acknowledgements and regular assemblies.
This consistent approach ensures students know what is expected and feel supported to make positive choices.
We partner with The Resilience Project to strengthen students’ emotional wellbeing. Through classroom lessons and whole-school activities, students learn practical strategies in:
Gratitude – finding joy in the small things
Empathy – understanding and caring for others
Mindfulness – calming and focusing the mind
These skills help our students build resilience, develop empathy and grow their capacity to manage life’s ups and downs.
Our Respectful Relationships curriculum teaches students how to build positive, healthy and respectful connections with others. Lessons focus on:
Emotional literacy
Positive coping strategies
Problem-solving and conflict resolution
Gender equality and respect
By embedding these lessons across all year levels, we prepare our students to contribute to safe and respectful communities now and in the future.
We recognise that some students bring challenging life experiences with them to school. Our staff use trauma-informed practices to provide safe, predictable and supportive learning environments. This includes:
Building strong, trusting relationships
Using calm and consistent approaches
Supporting regulation and coping strategies
Providing flexible responses to individual needs
Every morning, our Breakfast Program offers students a healthy start to the day. Run by staff and supported by community partners, the program provides cereal, toast, fruit and other nutritious options. No child should learn on an empty stomach, and this program ensures every student is ready to focus and learn.
Many of our students benefit from support through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). We work closely with allied health professionals—including speech pathologists, occupational therapists and psychologists—who provide services on-site. These partnerships ensure that learning and wellbeing supports are coordinated and consistent between home, school and therapy.
Shepparton East Primary is proud to have a Mental Health in Primary Schools Champion on staff. This role provides:
Early identification of students needing extra support
Targeted small group or individual wellbeing strategies
Guidance for teachers in supporting mental health needs in the classroom
Connection with external services for families when needed
This initiative ensures that student mental health is supported proactively and in partnership with families.
Wellbeing is everyone’s business at Shepparton East Primary School. Through a whole-school approach, strong partnerships and a caring community, we empower our students to be confident, resilient and respectful learners who are ready for the future.
